General Show Rules


1. All animals to be shown by their owner or other responsible person, and at
that persons' own risk. CARE will try to see that all animals are properly
cared for, but we are not be held responsible by any party for the loss,
death or injury of any animal.

2. All animals to be shown in their natural condition. Any animal whose
natural shade or color has been altered, or whose coat has been plucked or
otherwise changed in any manner, will be subject to disqualification by the
judge.

3. When entries are made and the animals are not received, the entry fee/show
box fee will not be returned nor will the entry fee/show box fee be returned
if the exhibitor leaves before judging.

4. If you are unsure about what class an animal should be entered in, the people at the registration table will be happy to help you.

5. All animals are to be taken to and removed from the staging table, by the
owner or other responsible person, in such a manner so as to facilitate an uninterrupted flow of judging. Animals in show boxes will be moved to and from the staging area to the judging area by a CARE representative.

6. There will be NO discussion of individual animals, between any exhibitor
and the judge, prior to or during the judging, unless specifically invited to
do so by that judge. It may be possible to ask questions after a class is
placed--ask the judge. In addition, conversation between exhibitors at or
near the judging table, will be conducted in such a manner so as not to
distract or influence the judge, either by context or volume. Any exhibitor
not complying will be subject to having his or her animals eliminated from
further competition by the judge.

7. All placements made by any judge are final and are not subject to change.

8. Participants should conduct themselves at shows so as to set an example of
good sportsmanship and cooperation. The shows are family/community events and are meant to be enjoyed by all. Persons who do not behave in an appropriate manner will be asked to leave.

9. All animals must arrive at the appropriate health check. Animals that do not pass the health check are barred from the show area. Please enter with animals only through the door specified for health check. Sick, injured or aggressive rats will not be allowed to show.

10. All animals must be brought to the show in close-sided, plastic containers (e.g., Critter Keepers, bins). Wire cages will not be allowed in the show area. If you do not have a close-sided, plastic container, CARE will have these available for rental ($5) or purchase ($10-$20). Instructions are posted to make your own bin.

11. In order to cut down on disease risk for the animals, rats should remain in their own area. Please do not carry rats around the show area. Please have guests use the spray provided before and after handling animals. Also, please do not allow guests or others to put your rats on their clothing.

12. All animals are required to have been quarantined (e.g., no other rats in or out, no pet store visits), for a period of three weeks. Please read the information about quarantine that is provided.

13. Rules are subject to change for the safety of everyone showing.
